Shiraito Falls((白糸の滝), Shizuoka prefecture

Shiraito falls are located in Shizuoka prefecture, at the foothills of Mount Fuji. ‘Shiraito’ means ‘white threads’. As its name indicates, this 150-meter wide cascade looks like white threads falling down the cliff. Surrounded by lush greenery in the midst of the mountains, this waterfall offers an enchanting scenery.

We went to Shiraito falls in April after visiting the Fuji Shiba Sakura festival of Yamanashi prefecture. There are two waterfalls here: the Otodome falls and the Shiraito Falls. While walking towards the Shiraito falls, we can see another waterfall- the Otodome falls at the left side of the walking trail.

Lots of souvenir shops are lined up on both sides of the long path leading to the Shiraito Falls. The falls are located at the foot of the mountains which can be accessed through the stairs. While walking towards the foot of the waterfalls, we can enjoy its beauty at various heights and distances. The best time to visit this place is during the autumn and after the spring season. The waterfalls gain an extra beauty when it is covered with greens. Most of the trees in the mountain shed their leaves during winter which reduces the panoramic view of the site. After the winter season, the melted snow of the Mount Fuji causes an increment in the amount of water flowing through the waterfalls which add up the beauty of these falls.
