Fushimi Inari(伏見稲荷大社) Shrine, Kyoto

Fushimi Inari is one of the most important Shinto shrines of Kyoto. The colourful Torii gates are the main attraction of this place. There is a hiking trail up to Mt. Inari. We can find a lot of fox guard statues all over the shrine grounds. The shrine is dedicated to God Inari, the Shinto God of rice production, where fox or Kitsune are considered as the gaurds or messengers of Inari.

Main gate, Fushimi Inari

Behind the main hall of the temple starts the array of vermillion coloured Torii gates. There are hundreds of Torii gates all over the hiking trail. The point where two rows of Torii gates run parallelly is one of the most beautiful sites among these.  Many small shrines are located at certain points up to the Mount. A lot of people visit this place for hiking the mountain. The number of Torri gates and the size reduces as we reach the top. Refreshment areas are located on the way at certain points.Yotsusuji is a point on the hiking trail from where we can see most part of the Kyoto city.

The entire temple building and gates are mostly vermillion painted. We can see the beautiful photos of Torii gates of Fushimi Inari representing Japan in many places.
