Some Famous DAIBUTSU(Great Buddha statues) Of Japan

As Buddhism is one of the most important religions of Japan, we can see many Buddhist Temples(Otera) all around the country. Associated with some of them, are situated the famous and largest Buddha statues or Daibutsu. These are some among them.

1.The Great Buddha of Gifu(Gifu Daibutsu)

The Great Budha of Shouhouji temple of Gifu is one of the largest Budha statues of Japan. The 13.7 metres high statue is made of Ginko wood, bamboo and decorated with gold leaves. There are a lot of other small statues on the sides of the temple wall. This temple is situated near to the Gifu Park.

2.Motoyama Buddha Nagoya(AICHI)

The Great Budha statue of Toganji temple of Motoyama, Nagoya city is unique in its colour. It is green in colour with a some small statues around it. The peculiarity of this temple has a pet graveyard near to the Budha statue.

3.Nara Daibutsu ,Tōdai-ji Temple ,Nara

Nara Daibutsu is a very famous Budha statue situated at the Todaiji temple in Nara.  Todaiji is one of the UNESCO world heritage sites and the Nara Daibutsu is regarded as the National treasure as well as a historic monument of ancient Nara. The deer park associated with the Todaiji temple is also very famous. Large number of tourist are visiting this place every year.

4.Ueno Daibutsu, Tokyo.

This is one of the ancient Budha statues of Japan. It has faced many earthquakes and the copper statue of Budha was melted for making weapons during the World War. Currently, only the head of the statue could be seen at the Ueno park grounds.
